About

I am a barrister at 39 Essex Chambers specialising in public law – that is, challenges to state policies and decisions. My background is in policy and campaigning work with and for disabled children and adults and their families. Many of my cases involve the intersection between law, policy and politics.

I am a support of the #JusticeforLB campaign- because LB’s death exemplifies all that is wrong with the treatment of disabled people in our society.

In addition to my caseload, I work closely with a wide range of charities including Contact a Family, the Council for Disabled Children and the National Autistic Society – primarily to promote a better understanding of the law and how it can be used amongst disabled people, families and professionals, or to help change the law for the better. The third edition of Disabled Children: A Legal Handbook, which I co-author, was published in 2020.

This blog is intended for legal information and cannot be relied on for advice on individual cases. Individuals who need legal advice may want to contact one of the specialist solicitors who offer legal aid with whom I work. I can also be instructed to advise on a ‘direct access’ basis by individuals and organisations, although I cannot obtain legal aid directly. Please email me or contact my clerks on 020 7832 1111 to discuss any potential instructions.
